China Telecom Confirms CDMA Tender Results

In the wake of the announcement of its tender results for five million CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile phones as previously reported, China Telecom recently confirmed the results for its CDMA equipment tender, Sohu News reported on September 22. Involving a total of 250,000 wireless carriers frequency equipment, this tender - reportedly valued at 27.9 billion RMB (US$4.1 billion; US$1 = 6.8 RMB) - will include China's 81 major cities, covering almost all provincial capitals and cities, as well as the important cities in eastern and central China, according to the same report.

The six winners of the tender include Huawei, which was rewarded 30% of the tender to supply equipment for 20 cities, following by Alcatel-Lucent's 20% for 13 cities, Motorola's 18% for 15 cities, and Nortel's 17% for 13 cities. Meanwhile, ZTE won 14% of the tender, to cover 21 cities, and Samsung won the contract for Shijazhuang city, Hebei province, according again to Sohu News.
